NQADA and SHAKESPEARE WHY SHAKESPEARE?

Shakespeare was a playwright, a pet, an actor and a share holder in his theatre company in the 16th century. He understood how to take a familiar story and create dramas with which people all over the world continue to identify. Shakespeare can open up new worlds to young people; his work is challenging. He can extend our concepts of what fiction can do, and of what stories a drama can tell. It can be rich and rewarding. Shakespeare drama classes begin from Grade 3. As a part of the drama program all students will experience the excitement of bringing Shakespeare’s plots and scenes to life within the Studio and on the stage. Shakespeare is Important to the Actor. The classics offer a unique, intellectual and emotional experience and Shakespeare’s plays are a challenging and empowering experience to all performers. Shakespeare is the supreme observer of life. We discover that the issues, themes and struggles of the 16th century are relevant today. ‘Shakespeare is the DNA of the English speaking world’ Hendry Shakespeare is written to be performed. If a young person’s experience of Shakespeare’s work is taken off the page and bought to life, it becomes empowering. How can someone from a different time write something that resonates today?

EISTEDDFOD IN JUNE

Entries are soon to be released for the Eisteddfod. I do encourage you to give it a go. It can be a daunting or a rewarding experience. However it is, you will gain more confidence in facing an audience each time you go out on the stage. If anyone is experience difficulty downloading the poems from the net, please come by the Studio. I have hard copies of all poems.
